From the Jungfraujoch station, take the 100-meter elevator to the top of the Sphinx observation deck, among the tallest observatories in the world. You can see the Jungfrau, Mönch, and Eiger peaks from the observation deck, as well as the whole Aletsch Glacier. The Sphinx observatory is among the tallest observatories in the world, with a telescope, a meteorological station, and two sizable laboratories (although this isn't accessible to the public).
Sphinx Observation DeckThe Alpine Sensation is located in the 250-meter-long corridor between the Sphinx Hall and the Ice Palace. This walkway recounts the countless sacrifices made by miners in building the Jungfraubhan. The enormous snow globe at the end reflects the daily life of the Jungfrau Region and Switzerland.
If you’re yearning for the winter in summer, head over to Snow Fun Park for snow adventures like skiing, sledding and ziplining. Note that tickets to Snow Fun Park must be purchased separately and this attraction is open only till mid-October.
More about the Snow Fun ParkThe Glacier Plateau is a viewing platform 10 minutes away from the Jungfraujoch railway station. From here you can marvel at the Black Forest and the Vosges on one side and the Aletsch Glacier and the Eiger and Monch peaks surrounding it on the other side.
Behold frozen beauty at its finest inside the Ice Palace, where sculptures of bears, penguins and more are carved with expert precision. These masterpieces are chiseled out of ice with saws and picks.
Ice Palace at JungfraujochThere’s never such a thing as too much chocolate. Visitors can learn how a bar of Lindt chocolate is made from the interactive Maîtres Chocolatiers at Lindt Chocolate Heaven. The shop also offers a wide selection of Lindt chocolates and other delicacies.
The Jungfrau Panaroama is a 360-degree 4-minute video that lets you experience the magnificence of the Jungfrau and its surrounding peaks. The Jungfrau Panorama is a surreal experience and lets you enjoy the snowy vistas and tall peaks virtually.
Mönchsjoch Hut (Mönchsjochhütte) is the highest hut in the Alpine region and offers great views of the surroundings. Once inside, you can dig into traditional Swiss cuisine. It takes about 45 minutes to hike from Jungfraujoch to Mönchsjoch Hut, but is advised for people with good physical fitness. Note that it is shut from October to March.
Want to deliver a message from the mountains? Send letters to your loved one from Jungfraujoch’s post office, which is located at 3454 m above sea level, and boasts of its own area code (3081). It holds the distinction of being Europe’s highest post office.
Jungfraujoch tickets start at CHF 174 onwards, depending on the ticket type. Basic tickets include round trip transfers from Grindelwald, Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen. Prices vary with guided tours and Swiss Travel passes.
Booking tickets online is highly recommended as you get to reserve your seat this way at the time of your choice. If this option isn't available to you, you can even purchase tickets at the train station.
Once you ride the railway up to Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe, there's plenty to do. You can go up to the Sphinx Observatory and enjoy scenic views, walk along the Alpine Sensation corridor and see the snow globe, go Lindt chocolate tasting, see frozen sculptures at the Ice Palace, enjoy skiing and sledding at the Snow Fun Park, hike to Monchsjoch Hut and more. Needless to say, an entire day can be spent exploring all of Jungfraujoch's offerings.
Only tickets to Snow Fun Park must be purchased separately. Other activities like visiting the Ice Palace, Sphinx Observatory, etc. are included within the Jungfraujoch tickets.
Setting aside at least half a day is advisable if you want to cover the major attractions within Jungfraujoch (this includes travel time). For a more immersive experience (including a hike, skiing, etc.), spending an entire day at Jungfraujoch is well worth your time.
